A match that looked easy on paper but we found it hard going with their goalkeeper doing well with lots of shots from Luca, Lewis, Ciaran and Arun. Our first goal came from some great work from Arun who ran from the halfway line to get a cross in which was well defended by Austen Arrowheads only for the clearance to come out to Luca who put his shot in the top corner. We were then put under some pressure and hit on the break three or four times and this only stopped by some good tackling from Harry and Bradley. When they did get past the two rocks at the back they had a keeper that is playing at his best at the moment and showed why he is the number one for this team by making some excellent saves in both half’s - well done Alex.
As the match went on the sideline started to get a bit flustered with one mum telling her son to run with the ball (like Forest Gump – “run Lewis, run…”) his dad then brought to his wife’s attention that her son was running with the ball and obviously she need a coffee to wake her up! Lewis picked up the ball just outside the penalty area and went on a run from one end to the other and put in a great cross which Luca got on the end of only to miss hit his shot which fell to Ciaran’s feet (on the goal line) for him to make it 2 – 0. We then showed what a good team we can be with the ball being passed around by the boys from one attack to another but even though we were playing downhill, we just couldn’t get any more goals with some good saves from their keeper. In the second half we moved players around with Kieran, Reice and George coming on and all three made sure that the play stayed the same by keeping the ball and moving it round the pitch well. As we attacked more the pressure was telling on the goalkeeper and with only two minutes to go he came out for the ball as Lewis came through and brought him down in the penalty area for a penalty. Lewis then picks himself up and set himself for it. With all the pressure from the sideline knowing that he had only got two out of five in the sponsored penalty shoot out three weeks before. He then made sure as he put it away in the bottom corner to make it
3 – 0 which it stayed until the end. This was a good game for the boys but I think we can do a lot better as this was the first match back after a long break. Man of the match went to George for all his hard work.
